13:30 Virtual Production – is VR a revolution of film making?
Keynote and Fireside Chat with Caleb Deschanel (Cinematographer, The Lion King)

Disney’s stunningly beautiful “The Lion King” was shot using a virtual film set. A game engine and Virtual Reality hardware catapulted director Jon Favreau, DOP Caleb Deschanel and key team members from a storage hall in LA to the African Savannah in seconds. In a keynote speech followed by a fireside chat, Caleb Deschanel, a six-time Oscar-nominated cameraman, talks about the incredible possibilities offered by a virtual production film set. He will give insights in how Virtual Reality headsets can be set up for collaborative workflows and real time production.

Talk by Peter Popp (CEO, Reef & Softmachine)

The Munich based production and distribution house Reef is specialized in Full Dome Experiences, but more and more keeps on looking for more sustainable and wider spread means of production. What works in VR may also work in full dome 2D and 3D, and the usage of more than just one ecosystem can make immersive content production more profitable.

The Swiss-American VR company Dreamscape strives to push the boundaries of immersive entertainment to deliver the best location-based VR experiences – from the technology itself, which provides a high level of presence and immersion, to the cinematic content and user journey. In this presentation, Caecilia Charbonnier, CEO of Dreamscape, will present the key aspects she believes are fundamental to the success of such an endeavor.

With so called Virtual Production, which is shooting CGI scenes in a complete virtual film set, the development of Virtual Reality has seen some unexpected turns. Rather than disrupting the way movies are watched, immersive technologies are radically going to change the way movies are made. But what about the promise that VR is going to be the next big thing in home entertainment? How is Location Based Entertainment holding up in 2020? And generally speaking: Is this year going to be the year that VR is finally making a break through?
